Yesterday was my boyfriend's birthday so I made him a yummy cake! He likes vanilla and caramel so I decided to try out a dulce de leche recipe. The cake is from a YumSugar recipe here and the frosting is an adapted version of this recipe. Instead of white chocolate in the frosting I added vanilla extract.
To make the dulce de leche sauce:
1. bring a large pot of water to boil and place 1 can of sweetened condensed milk inside the pot.
2. Turn down the burner so that the water is simmering and cook for 1 1/2 hours. Make sure that the can is covered in water the entire time or it may explode.
3. Take the can out and allow it to cool completely before opening, the sauce can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
